What ZoneFoundry is
ZoneFoundry is an iOS app for homes that already run Sonos. It does not replace Sonos — it adds what the official app has never had: a voice assistant, search that spans every linked music service, announcements that restore what was playing, and scenes you can trigger from Apple Home.
Who makes it
ZoneFoundry is built and run by one independent developer, Sam (YongKun Shi) — the iOS app, the server side, the local Bridge, and every guide on this site. It is not a large company and does not pretend to be. The person you reach is the person who can change the code.
Why it exists
Sonos hardware is good; the software layer has gaps. There is no real voice assistant, search means picking a service first, an announcement wipes out whatever was playing, and scenes never reach Apple Home. None of these are dramatic — they are the small frictions you hit every day. ZoneFoundry fills that layer.
Where we stand
- Your system stays yours. The local Bridge runs in Docker on your own network — no account in the path, and it keeps working when the internet does not.
- No overclaiming. When something is not possible we say so. The Sonos API has limits and we do not pretend otherwise.
- The guides are not a funnel. Most of the Sonos troubleshooting here you can finish on your own without ever becoming a customer.
- Content is maintained. Sonos and the music services change constantly and a stale guide does harm. Every article carries its last-updated date.
