Guides
Get the most out of ZoneFoundry
From scenes to smart-home automation — illustrated, step-by-step.
Start
Three guides and you're running
New here? Your first 10 minutes
From fresh install to your first song: language, Sonos sign-in, Home and Search.
2Sign in to Sonos — unlock search, voice & scenes
Why it's worth it, how to do it, what skipping costs, and how to switch later.
3Link your music services — search them all at once
Spotify links once; Apple Music follows your Sonos account; Plex pairs with a PIN.
Everyday
The ones you'll use every day
Talk to ZoneFoundry in Cantonese & Mandarin
Ask for music in your own words, with live captions tuned for Cantonese and Mandarin.
Browse, search & play across Spotify, QQ Music & NetEase
All three now browse, filter and queue just like Apple Music does.
Multi-room Sonos control
Group rooms in sync, set each room's volume, save combinations as scenes — for homes and shops.
Now Playing on lock screen, Dynamic Island & widgets
Play, pause and skip from the lock screen and Dynamic Island — one card per group, no app needed.
Broadcast to your speakers, then auto-restore
Announce in any room even with no bridge or cloud — the music comes back automatically afterwards.
Let Sonos read you the news
Seven categories, 3/5/10 items, Mandarin/Cantonese/English, to one room or the whole home.
Works on Wi-Fi alone — no account, no bridge
On the same Wi-Fi, control every room with no account and no cloud — instant and local.
Your assistant gets to know you
No setup — it quietly learns your taste and habits, and you can clear it anytime.
Advanced
Automation, AI access and local hosting
Let your AI assistant run your Sonos
Hook up Claude or whichever assistant you use — one sentence queues music for real, no bridge required.
Queue music by texting WeChat, Telegram or QQ
No app to open and no shared Wi-Fi needed — text on the commute, the music is going when you walk in. No bridge required.
Follow-Me — music walks with you
Motion sensors hand playback room to room as you move through your home.
Follow-Me in the cloud — keeps going with the app closed
No bridge, no spare iPad. Paste two links per room into an Apple Home automation and it follows you with your phone in your pocket.
Link a scene with your lights & AC
Combine a music scene with your devices in Apple Home — one tap, or fully automatic.
Control Sonos with Siri & Apple Home
Once the bridge is on, rooms become Apple Home lightbulbs (On = play, brightness = volume); scenes sync in, and Siri or automations can drive them.
Auto-run a scene when someone walks in
Trigger a scene with a presence sensor (e.g. Linptech ES5 mmWave) — walk in, and music, lights and AC come on by themselves.
One-tap automation presets
Wake-up music, leave-home pause, scheduled scenes — set in a tap, synced to Apple Home.
Local Bridge on Docker
One Docker command on a NAS, Unraid or Synology keeps advanced control on your local network.
Sonos basics
Useful whether or not you use ZoneFoundry
Set up Sonos for the first time
From network checks and permissions to your first room and first music service, for the 2026 app.
Groups vs stereo pairs vs home theater
Three structures that are not interchangeable. Knowing what each can do stops you fixing a problem that never existed.
Add music services and a NAS library
Streaming authorization and a local library are two different paths with different requirements.
S1 or the current system? Audit first
Confirm which products qualify before upgrading — some steps cannot be undone.
Sonos troubleshooting
Start here before you factory reset anything
Speakers not showing up in the app
"No products found" and "they keep vanishing" are different faults. Work cheapest-first; factory reset comes last.
Grouping fails, or plays silence
Will not join, joins then drops, joins but silent — three unrelated causes, three different fixes.
Music service won't connect or play
Usually not Sonos at all, but the service's plan or authorization. Find the failing gate first.
Running S1 alongside the current system
Which limits are permanent platform boundaries and which are merely unconfigured.
Speakers keep dropping off Wi-Fi
Intermittent drops and "nothing found" are different problems. Five network causes, in the order that finds it fastest.
Sonos missing from AirPlay
Confirm the model supports AirPlay 2 first, then subnet, multicast, VPN and grouping.
TV lip sync off or audio cutting out
Constant offset, gradual drift and dropouts are three different faults. Work down eARC, format, then TV processing.
What each status light colour means
White, green, orange, red, steady or flashing — and which ones need nothing, which need waiting, and which need you.
How to factory reset a Sonos
The cost first: it permanently deletes favourites and connected services. Which button per model, and when not to.
Says it's playing but silent
Whether the progress bar moves decides which half to check. Three volume layers, the wrong room, or a source giving nothing.
Which models have Bluetooth
Arc, Beam, One, Five and the Play:1/3/5 don't have it and never will. Ten products do — here's how to pair and what you lose.
Trueplay missing or not working
Android can't run it and eleven current iPads can't either. The official list, the quick-tuning workaround, and how to undo a bad tune.
Music library won't add
913 is the SMB version, "not responding" is the firewall, "refused" is a duplicate hostname. Each code matched to its real cause.
Spotify not working on Sonos
Spotify Connect and the in-app service are separate routes that fail differently. Work out which one you're on first.
Apple Music dropping or no lossless
Lossless almost never plays until Spatial Music is off — they're mutually exclusive. Plus dropouts and what's genuinely unsupported.
Alexa not working with Sonos
Built into the speaker and controlled by an Echo are different integrations. Plus region limits most guides never mention.
Update stuck or failing
The one rule: never unplug mid-update. A stall is usually network or storage, not a dead speaker.
