Where the Sonos app is better
- Anything to do with setup: adding speakers, updates and adding music service accounts can only be done in the official app.
- Volume +/− and mute buttons on the lock-screen card. In the current version, ZoneFoundry's card only has play/pause and next.
- In Shortcuts, “play a favorite” lets you pick from a list, and grouping has a room picker. In ZoneFoundry you type the names.
What ZoneFoundry adds
- Chinese: Mandarin and Cantonese both work. The official Sonos AI features (27mcp, 27voice) are US English only for now.
- WeChat, QQ, Telegram: send a message to play music or change the volume; family members don't need the app. See Control Sonos from WeChat.
- Siri without setup: Sonos documents building a shortcut first and then saying its name; with ZoneFoundry, open the app once and just say it.
- More Shortcuts actions: 8 in the official app, about 38 in ZoneFoundry — including previous / next, sleep timer, alarms and “what's playing”, none of which appear in the actions listed in Sonos's release notes.
- Lock screen and Home Screen: one lock-screen card per playing group, with artwork and progress, on by default; tappable Home Screen widgets and Control Center controls. The official iOS app doesn't offer Home Screen widgets yet (the 8 September update added them for Android only).
Using both together
- Sonos app: first-time setup, adding speakers, updates, adding Spotify / Apple Music and other accounts.
- ZoneFoundry: everyday playing, moving between rooms, volume, Siri, the lock screen, widgets and WeChat.
Both control the same Sonos system: start something in one app and you'll see it in the other.

FAQ
Do I still need the Sonos app after installing ZoneFoundry?
Yes. Setting up speakers, updates and adding music service accounts can only be done in the official app.
Doesn't Sonos 27 already have AI control?
It does, but as of 2026-09-28 both 27mcp (control from Claude and ChatGPT) and 27voice (the voice assistant) are US English only and in Early Access. ZoneFoundry works in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, and from WeChat, QQ and Telegram.
Do I have to sign in to Sonos in ZoneFoundry?
Away-from-home, WeChat and AI control need your Sonos account connected once in the app. If you only use it at home, you can skip signing in while your phone and speakers share a Wi-Fi network — see Local control without an account.
Do either of them cost money?
Both are free. Every ZoneFoundry launch feature is free; if an advanced subscription arrives later, core control stays free.
